Neurodivergent individuals in the Southampton and surrounding Solent area can now access the new Solent Get into Employment scheme to get support when looking for work. Helping autistic people find meaningful work and work providers to support their autistic employees
The programme supports employers to promote job opportunities to autistic job seekers. They then support applicants through the recruitment process and successful candidates to prepare for and succeed in their role. The roles that are created through Autism at Work will be posted on the Jobs Board on the Employment pages of the NAS website.
The NAS’ online employment training module is available free of charge! If you are an autistic person looking for work or are in work and want to make the most of your employment, this module is designed for you. The content has been created with autistic people and employers. It covers topics such as identifying personal skills, CV writing, positive disclosure of your diagnosis, getting the adaptations you need at work and skills for the workplace. Click here for details.
A pioneering initiative dedicated to acknowledging and supporting organisations that prioritise creating autism-friendly work environments. This transformative programme aims to raise the bar for inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and harness the unique talents of autistic individuals in the workforce.
The charity Ambitious about Autism has also recently announced their Employ Autism scheme to increase autistic young people's access to employment through two work experience programmes – Autism Exchange and Supported internships.
They have also designed a collection of toolkits to help more autistic young people access sustainable and meaningful employment opportunities. The resources will help employers to develop their awareness and understanding of autism. They will support the hiring and retaining of talented autistic young people.
These resources are also relevant for autistic young people, their parents/carers, teachers, and other relevant professionals to support a young person to make informed choices about their future employment opportunities.
A supported internship programme for young people, with a learning disability, difficulty and/or autism, aged 16-24.
